I recently got into a
discussion on twitter over baseball.
For those of you who
think that sports is below your spiritual level of enlightenment.. I have news for you. Baseball is an avenue where some of us seek God. . and we find Him.
But back to Jesus Christ. So you know I can talk about God..
about the Bible and even about sin and virtue and all is well. However if I bring up Jesus and the conversation grows silent?
If I point to Jesus as a model for men.. they grow silent. To be sure some
take the leap and remember. Jesus Christ makes God real..and holds us and more specifically men to the highest standard.
It’s understandable. What is the first thing you think of when I mention
Jesus Christ?
A man..God... the dreaded.. Cross. Who is Jesus Christ on the cross?
HE is God.. He is miracles.. He is forgiveness.. He is Love to the point of
the ultimate self sacrifice.
His ego is sacrificed.. he is not only humble.. but by our standards
humiliated.
He sacrifices his comfort.. I can’t think of anything more uncomfortable
than being spit on, mocked.. and physically and verbally abused..
Then carrying a cross.. the instrument you will be tortured and killed on.
He sacrifices his human will for the divine will.
Wow.. can you imagine begging for the cup of humiliation and suffering
to pass and yet submitting. A man ????
HE is God so men either deny Jesus Christ as a man and also as God.
For as a man he calls all men to this.. and as God he commands this.. why?
Because He knows that this is how men are fulfilled.
War..mass murders..suicide bombers.. they are imperfectly imitating divine
self sacrifice.
To be certain there is only one Jesus. But he invites followers to take up t
heir cross.
Jesus/ God took on flesh and became man.. and the world still struggles
with the Virgin birth.. with the immaculate conception.. with the God and man who healed.. who wept.. who was obstinate but in the end who loved enough..to give it all away and who saved us with his sacrifice. Yet He was exalted above every name.
No wonder Jesus Christ is a Name that Divides.
